Stand presents demo of the Mobile Bus Ticketing application, developed jointly with the Telecom Italia research labs, and Olivetti’s latest-generation Transportation & Mobility solutions

Helsinki, 21 May 2007 – Olivetti, the Telecom Italia Group company active in the information & communications technology sector, is taking part in the International Union of Public Transport Mobility & City Transport Exhibition 2007 (UITP), at the Fair Centre in Helsinki from 21 to 24 May. The event is part of the 57th UITP World Congress.

Olivetti, a solutions provider for local public transport and mobility requirements for more than twenty years, designs, produces and supplies products and systems for the full range of travel document issue and validation needs on board vehicles, on the ground, in agencies, and with self-service terminals installed throughout the country.
Olivetti addresses many different areas, but its philosophy is always the same: supporting process automation in the transport industry by offering turnkey solutions comprising state-of-the-art products and all-round services.

At UITP 2007, Olivetti is showing its latest mobility products and solutions for the management of public/private transport tickets and cards, in paper-based and contactless versions.

In the validation field, Olivetti is showing the V@lida COMBO and Valid@ XP validators for contactless and paper-based documents, and the V@lida 500 for combined validation of magnetic stripe tickets and contactless cards.

UITP 2007 visitors can see a demo on the Olivetti stand of the Mobile Bus Ticketing application developed jointly by Olivetti and the Telecom Italia research labs. The solution validates bus tickets, using a mobile terminal communicating with an Olivetti validator via the ZigBee radio interface, or season tickets, with a Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled cellphone emulating a contactless smart card (e.g., a prepaid badge).

The ticketing machine area sees the debut of the TE 1500, for on-board ticket sales by the driver, and the TE 1500R, the agency version linked with the high-autonomy Print@ printer for issue of travel documents for subsequent validation.

The extensive range of Olivetti solutions on exhibit at UITP 2007 includes the TE3000, an agency ticketing workstation based on the Explor@ 300, the new touch-screen POS terminal coupled with printers to issue various types of ticket.

UITP visitors will also be able to try out the wealth of functions on the H2 control terminal, used by drivers to issue tickets and top up or renew electronic documents, and the M5C ticketing unit for on-board self-service ticket purchases.

Other devices at Olivetti booth in Helsinki include the M2T multi-function self-service ticketing system for multi-fare and multi-company management. This system issues and encodes magnetic, paper-based and barcode documents, chips on paper and smart cards.

The exhibit is completed with the Service Point terminal, an unmanned self-service information dispenser that can be fully configured to specific client needs.
Intended for easy access in public areas, this terminal with its innovative design is the ideal choice for companies offering users self-service facilities in order to boost efficiency and raise customer satisfaction.
