At the annual tradeshow in Dubai, Olivetti is presenting its latest business solutions for the Office, Retail & e-Government and Banking areas

Olivetti, the Telecom Italia Group company active in the Information & Communication Technology sector, is taking part, also this year, in Gitex (Dubai, 19-23 October 2008), the Middle East’s leading annual ICT tradeshow. Its return to the Dubai event confirms Olivetti’s attention to the needs of Middle Eastern business organisations looking for experienced technology partners to provide reliable support at a time of rapid growth.
Olivetti is presenting state-of-the-art solutions for the Office sector, meeting the full range of user requirements thanks to the superior printing quality and outstanding productivity delivered by its systems.
For the Retail sector, the Olivetti stand is showing the new line of POS WEB-Services terminals, which improve the effectiveness of e-government services by providing the public with service points in retail stores.
Finally, Olivetti is exhibiting a number of interesting new entries for the Banking sector, where the Italian company is a long-standing player and the world leader in specialised teller peripherals, with a global market share of 70%.

Products displayed in Dubai include the new d-Color MF201Plus, a multifunctional A3 colour copier with an output of 20 pages per minute. For users looking for superior colour performance, this is the perfect tool: copy, print and scanner capabilities in a single compact device, as well as an optional fax. Features include an innovative large interactive colour display with a preview function for documents stored on the 60 GB hard disk. The polymer toner guarantees outstanding image definition and employs front-edge technology to guarantee energy savings in compliance with the strictest environmental standards. Additionally, advanced security options and optional finishing modules make the d-Color MF201 Plus a complete miniature printing centre for corporate users.
Gitex visitors will also see the d-Copia 2500 MF, a multifunctional A3 b/w digital device with network copier, printer and scanner functions, plus a network fax option, to rationalise workflows in the modern office. With a speed of 25 pages per minute and a compact, practical design, the d-Copia 2500MF is an ideal tool for decentralising print, copy and scanner jobs in small and medium companies. Running costs are kept to a minimum thanks to the reliability and productivity guaranteed by the exclusive 400K page print drums.
Another product in Olivetti’s multifunctional digital copier exhibit is the d-Copia 201D, a new A4 b/w copier with copy, print and scan capabilities, intended for small offices and professionals. With a standard network print board and speed of 20 pages per minute, this is an excellent peripheral printer for small workgroups. Features include a duplex module for front/back printing to save paper and a 50-page automatic document feed. Although the d-Copia 201D is a b/w printer/copier, it can also handle colour scanning jobs.
Another new entry from Olivetti is the OFX 9300 laser fax delivering impressive quality and high speeds for small offices and professionals. The 14.4 kbps modem transmits an A4 page in 6 seconds, while the 4 MB memory stores up to 400 pages. The OFX 9300 also offers a copy function (16 pages per minute) and SMS text transmission and reception.
Printing products being shown by Olivetti include the PG L2028 Special, a b/w desktop laser printer with a speed of 28 ppm, a 32 MB memory and standard duplex.
RETAIL & E-GOVERNMENT
Olivetti has been providing important shop automation solutions for Retailers for many years. In addition to stand-alone products, at Gitex it is showing systems, solutions and services to support point-of-sale requirements in every retail category, from restaurants to clothing stores and franchising chains.
Dubai sees the debut of two complete POS systems, Explor@ 200 XS and Explor@ 300 XS, compact touch-screen cash desk workstations running front-store service management software. For the Explor@ 300 XS, Olivetti is presenting an application supporting web-based payments, fund transfers and cellphone top-ups.
The Gitex 2008 stand also includes the PR4 SL, a compact, high-productivity specialised invoice printer, and the PRT100 high-speed retail printer – up to 200 mm/s – for all computer- or workstation-managed cash desks.
Solutions for delivery of e-government services in shops include the new MAEL 205/E terminal for utility bill and tax payments, sale of prepaid cards and pension payments as well as management of normal retail activities. At Gitex, the MAEL 205/E is being shown with a solution for management of water, electricity and gas bill payments, as well as cellphone top-ups.
BANKING
Olivetti products for the Banking sector cover the full range of application requirements, to improve quality and optimise the services offered by banks.
Products on display at Gitex 2008 include the PR2 Plus Scanner, an excellent tool for printing on mono- and multiple-copy forms and passbooks, featuring a front/back scanner. Available in grey or black, the PR2 Plus Scanner provides the flexibility to print passbooks, forms and receipts, deposit and withdrawal slips, validate cheques and handle advanced digital imaging applications.
Gitex 2008 also provides the stage for the Middle Eastern debut of the MPU-2, a new multifunctional kiosk based on the PR2 Plus Scanner printer, to lighten the bank teller’s workload. As a self-service device, the MPU-2 can be used by clients to update their passbooks, print bank statements and other items managed by a professional laser printer. The kiosk also features a scanner and an OCR engine to enable bank clients to handle payment forms themselves, using the kiosk pin-pad and an EMV-compatible badge reader.
In the cheque reader area, Olivetti is presenting Fast Cheque, a new device with CMC7 or E13B codeline read functions, which can also be equipped with a badge reader.
Fast Cheque joins Olivetti’s successful Immagina cheque reader; equipped with an MICR codeline reader and front/back scanner, Immagina is a major simplification in cheque-clearing operations.
